A Place Where Every Child Belongs
The B.E. Smith Family Center is a hub of hope for Kansas City families. Home to the Britain Development and Early Learning programs, it’s where children of all abilities can learn, grow, and thrive together. And none of it would exist without generosity. Proceeds from AdventHealth Kansas City Foundation’s annual gala, Tinsel & Tidings, helped bring the vision to life and continue to raise more than $1 million each year to sustain it.
A Building Designed for Hope
The 63,000-square-foot, two-story facility was built with kids in mind. It features bright classrooms filled with natural light, therapy spaces that nurture growth, and even indoor and outdoor inclusive playgrounds. Two aquatic therapy pools provide new opportunities for strength and mobility, while innovative tools like the Variety KC Compass system allow children with mobility challenges to walk, play, and connect.
Growing to Meet More Needs
Thanks to the generosity of donors, the Center continues to grow in meaningful ways—enhancing care for children and support for those who serve them. Recent additions include a staff respite room, a new therapy gym expanding individualized care options, the introduction of TheraSuit therapy, and SHiNE, a sculpture honoring children lost too soon while celebrating the light their memories continue to shine.
